The Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales invites applications from established breed judges to be added to our Judges' List.

Judging List Criteria

A LIST

A1 – To include persons who the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales would support at a Championship Show where Challenge Certificates are on offer and who have previously been approved by The Kennel Club to award Challenge Certificates in the breed.

A2 –  For persons who fulfil the requirements for the A3 list, and who have been assessed in accordance with The Kennel Club requirements, and accepted by The Kennel Club for inclusion on an A2 list, and have the support of the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales.

A3 – Criteria for Breed Specialist.
Persons on this list are required to have met ALL the following criteria.

  1. To have a minimum of 10 years owning, exhibiting and judging experience in the breed with appointments spread over a reasonable geographical area, and have the support of the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales
  2. To have judged at least 60 classes in the breed at a total of 10 open shows, with a minimum of 120 dogs present and judged, one of which should preferably be a Welsh Springer breed club show.
  3. To have had 3 or more dogs entered in The Kennel Club Stud Book. Dogs to have been bred or owned by the applicant when they obtained their first entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book by reasons of their wins (save in exceptional circumstances)
  4. To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer, and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging procedures.
  5. To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement, and a Hands On Assessment conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the Assessment.
  6. To have attended at least one Breed Specific Seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club of Best Practice and passed an examination and or Assessment where applicable.
  7. To have stewarded over a minimum of 12 shows.
  8. To agree to write a show critique as required by The Kennel Club.

Criteria for non Breed Specialist.
Persons on this list are required to have met ALL the following criteria.

  1. To have a minimum of 10 years judging, exhibiting and breeding of dogs and have the support of the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales
  2. To have judged the breed at 10 shows
  3. To have judged at least 50 classes of the breed with a minimum of 100 dogs present and judged, a breed club show
  4. To award Challenge Certificates to a minimum of 1 other gundog breed.
  5. To agree to write show critiques as required by The Kennel Club.
  6. To have bred and or owned a minimum of 3 dogs of any breed when they obtained their first entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book by reasons of their wins (save in exceptional circumstances)
  7. To have attended at least one breed specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and or assessment where applicable.

B LIST

Criteria for Breed Specialist.

  1. To have judged 15 classes in the breed with a minimum of 50 dogs present and judged.
  2. To have had 5 years owning judging and exhibiting experience.
  3. To have stewarded over a minimum of 6 days at either Open or Championship Shows.
  4. To have attended at least 1 Welsh Springer related Training Seminars.

Criteria for non Breed Specialist.

  1. To have judged a minimum of 20 classes in the breed with a minimum of 60 dogs present and judged.
  2. To have had a minimum of 7 years all round exhibiting and judging experience.
  3. To have stewarded over a minimum of 6 shows at either Open or Championship Shows.
  4. Attended at least 1 Welsh Springer Spaniel related training seminar.

C LIST

Criteria for Breed and non Breed Specialist.
For aspirant judges who have shown an interest in the breed and have the support of the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales. Listings would normally include persons who have judged the breed at Limited and Open Shows, but do not yet qualify for the B List

Notes

  1. The Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales considers that a Welsh Springer Spaniel judging appointment at a Championship Show without Challenge Certificates does not equate to a judging appointment at a Welsh Springer Spaniel Breed Club Show.
  2. The suitability of applicants for inclusion in the breed A1 A2 and A3 list of judges will be considered by the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales at its discretion using the criteria detailed above as a guide. The decision of the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales is final.
  3. This does not preclude a resubmission of an applicant in any subsequent year.
