CRITIQUE ~ DOG CLASSES

Thank you to the Club for the kind invitation to judge at your open show, the wonderful hospitality and to my efficient ring stewards. This was a much-anticipated appointment after the original date had to be rescheduled due to the pandemic. Overall, I was pleased with the quality of the exhibits entered and thank you to the exhibitors for entering under me and accepting my decisions so sportingly.

CLASS 1 - Veteran Dog  (1:0)

1st         Brown’s, Bowdonia Ozzie VW

A dog I have had the pleasure to judge before, and I was thrilled to be able to go over him again. Masculine dog, excellent head of correct proportions, kind dark eye with chiselling underneath and scissor bite. Clean in throat with good length of neck leading to well laid-back shoulders and correctly angulated forequarters. Deep chest with well-sprung ribs, and muscular hindquarters with good width of second thigh and well let down hocks. Stood on tight cat-like feet and moved soundly but lacked a little in drive today compared to Best Dog – RBD & BVIS.

CLASS 2 - Minor Puppy Dog (0) – no entries

CLASS 3 - Puppy Dog (2:0)

1st         Stone’s, Kidenoan Mark Time For Merrem

11-month-old dog, showing promise but currently looking quite leggy in outline. Head of correct proportions with defined stop, desired ear set, dark eye and scissor bite. Long neck, correctly angulated forequarters down to straight forelegs. Needs time to mature in body but deep chest with ample spring of ribs. Hindquarters correctly angulated, well let down hocks and moved well – BPD.

2nd        Lewis’s, Kidenoan Mark Up Von Trannon

Litter brother of class winner and many of same comments apply. Head and muzzle of proportionate length, with moderately low set ears and correct scissors bite. Still needs time to mature in body but has ample depth to chest and spring of ribs for age. Correctly angulated fore and hindquarters. Moved soundly.

CLASS 4 - Junior Dog (1:0)

1st         Evans’s, Glenbrows Born To Be

13-month-old dog and another youngster at that rangy stage of development. Typey head but would prefer slightly less length to muzzle, correct ear set, shape and scissor bite. Adequate depth of chest and spring of ribs for age with moderately angulated fore and hindquarters. Moved well and true coming and going.

CLASS 5 - Yearling Dog (1:0)

1st         Piggot’s, Hudolus Sealkiss Strumble

Masculine dog who presented a balanced outline. Head and muzzle of proportionate length, with slightly domed skull, correct ear set/shape and scissor bite. Long muscular neck leading to well-laid-back shoulders and moderately angulated forequarters. Deep chest with well-sprung ribs leading to well-developed hindquarters with well let down hocks. Moved soundly, coming and going but lacked in drive, due to matching handler’s short strides on the move.

CLASS 6 – Novice Dog (2:0)

1st         Piggot’s, Hudolus Sealkiss Strumble

2nd        Evans’s, Glenbrows Born To Be

(see Junior Dog) – Yearling dog won the class on body proportions and overall balance.

1st         Worth’s, Sh Ch Sarabande Lord of the Dance (Ai) JW

Another dog I have judged previously as a youngster, and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to judge him again today. 5yr old dog who presented a balanced outline. Beautiful head but still masculine with correct head-to-muzzle proportions, defined stop, dark eye with chiselling underneath and scissor bite. Muscular long neck into well-laid-back shoulders, correctly angulated forequarters leading down to straight well-boned forelegs. Deep chest, well-sprung ribs with muscular loin leading to moderately angulated, muscular hindquarters with well-developed second thigh. Presented in excellent muscular condition throughout and gleaming coat. Moved sound and true with drive – BD & RBIS

2nd        Cemis’s, Taimere’s Talk About Me

Another quality dog who presented a balanced, compact outline. Masculine head of correct proportions with required eye colour, ear set and desired scissor bite. Strong muscular neck with correctly angulated forequarters, leading to well-boned straight forelegs. Well-sprung ribs and depth to chest with muscular well-developed hindquarters with well let down hocks. Stood on tight catlike feet and moved soundly. Shown in excellent condition but I just preferred the rear movement on class winner.

CLASS 10 - Special Beginners Dog (2:0)

1st         Blackford’s, Amblelight Sunglow

10yr old bitch who I really liked for type and construction but unfortunately wasn’t showing in her Sunday best today. Feminine head of correct proportions with correct moderately low set ears, eye colour and scissor bite. Enough length to neck leading to well-laid-back shoulders and moderately angulated forequarters. Deep chest, well-sprung ribs and well-developed hindquarters. Moved soundly, but another lacking in drive.

CLASS 13 - Minor Puppy Bitch (1:2)

1st               Ritchie’s, Renascent Bleaberry At Slapestones (Imp USA) NAF TAF

8-month bitch with a sweet feminine head of correct proportions with required scissor bite, eye colour and ear set. Moderately angulated forequarters with well-boned straight forelegs. Deep chest and enough spring to rib for age. Hindquarters moderately angulated with well-let-down hocks. Moved soundly and true coming and going – BPB & BPIS.

CLASS 14 - Puppy Bitch (3:0)

1st               Ritchie’s, Renascent Bleaberry At Slapestones (Imp USA) NAF TAF

2nd        Blackford’s, Amblelight Adhara

Another quality 10-month-old puppy bitch. Head of correct proportions with correct eye colour, ear set and scissor bite. Moderate angulation to fore and hindquarters with enough depth to chest and spring of rib. Moved soundly but preferred the head type of winner.

3rd        Moore’s, Kidenoan Mark That Bird

CLASS 15 - Junior Bitch (2:0)

2nd        Lyon’s, Mymmsbrook Mismo

Bitch with feminine head with slightly domed skull, defined stop, ear set, and scissor bite. Correctly angulated forequarters with well-laid-back shoulders leading down to well-boned straight forelegs. Deep chest and well-sprung ribs. Moderately angulated hindquarters with well let down hocks, stood on tight cat-like feet and shown in muscular condition. Moved soundly with drive.

CLASS 16 - Yearling Bitch (2:0)

1st         Ritchie’s, Sarabande Dancing Queen At Slapestones (Ai) JW

13-month-old bitch feminine bitch with correct head proportions with defined stop, correct moderate low ear set and scissor bite. Moderately angulated forequarters with amble spring of rib and depth to chest. Hindquarters are well developed with well-let-down hocks. Moved soundly but would have preferred more drive on the move.

2nd        Morgan’s, Benoveor Endless Love

20-month-old-bitch, well off for bone throughout. Feminine head, with correct ear set, eye colour and scissor bite. Moderate angulation fore and hindquarters. Amble depth of chest and spring of rib. Tail carried slightly high but a sound mover.

CLASS 18 - Post Graduate Bitch (2:1)

1st         Moore’s, Kidenoan Second Flite

Bitch who presented a compact outline on initial inspection. Type head of correct proportions, with correct ear set, eye colour, scissor bite and well developed nostrils. Ample length of neck, leading to well-laid-back shoulders and moderately angulated forequarters. Deep chest and well-sprung ribs. Muscular hindquarters with well-let-down hocks. Moved soundly but slightly wide coming towards.

CLASS 19 - Limit Bitch (5:0)

1st         Williams’, Crimicar Stand By Me for Bodlon

4-year-old bitch who presented a balanced and compact outline. Feminine head of correct head-to-muzzle proportions with domed skull, correct ear set, eye colour and scissor bite. Moderately angulated fore and hindquarters. Deep chest with well-sprung ribs. Moved true, coming and going with drive. Shown in muscular condition but lacked in coat condition to complete the picture and be considered for top honours today.

2nd        Waller’s, Isfryn Lady Godiva At Fireglow JW

I really liked this bitch for type, who presented a compact outline when stood. Head of correct proportions, with correct eye colour with chiselling below, ear set/shape and scissor bite. Forequarters moderately angulated with straight well-boned forelegs. Deep chest and well-sprung ribs leading to muscular hindquarters with well-developed second thigh. Moved true, coming and going.

CLASS 20 - Open Bitch (4:1)

6-year-old bitch, feminine, beautiful typey head of correct proportions with slightly domed skull, defined stop, eye colour, ear set/shape and scissor bite. Well laid-back shoulders with moderately angulated forequarters leading down to well-boned straight forelegs. Deep chest and well-sprung ribs with muscular loin that gives the desired rise. Hindquarters well developed and muscular with well let down hocks. Stood on tight cat like feet and moved true and sound with drive – BB & BIS.

2nd        Lyon’s, Mymmsbrook Mimosa

Another quality bitch who presented a compact outline on initial inspection. Typey beautiful head of correct proportions with defined stop, correct eye colour, ear set/shape with desired scissor bite. Well-laid-back shoulders with moderately angulated fore and hindquarters. Deep chest with well-sprung rib cage leading to well-developed hindquarters with good width of second thigh. Stood on tight cat-like feet, moved soundly and true coming and going. Shown in muscular condition and coat and pushed the class winner hard – RBB.
