Judge: Mr Richard Morris (Lascoed)

As a founder member may I extend my heartfelt thanks to the committee of the WSSCSW for the kind invitation to judge at this 40th year anniversary show and exhibitors for all their delightful entries.

My winners pleased me greatly on the day and my co-judge Mrs Jan Rees and I completely agreed on the final line up of beautiful breed examples in all the main winners, a credit to the breed. The show was beautifully laid out so much happening thanks to such a dedicated and hard working committee and my excellent stewards Mr & Mrs Shears.

Class 1 - Veteran Dog (6:1)

1st       Yacoub’s Laithmoor’s Red Grenadine JW – Seven years two months. Beautifully moulded masculine mature head true balance and soft expression compact strong fit build plenty of mature substance on show. Soundly constructed strong bone and the best of close thickly padded feet outline balanced in proportion to his size and scope a truly typical Welshie in my opinion for construction. Excellent dense coat silky texture lying well a powerful active dog full of endurance with real push and thrust to his forward action and positive determined sound rear movement. With my co-judge delighted to award BVD & BVIS, congratulations.

2nd      Cemis’s Sh Ch Taimere’s Talk About Me – Seven years two months. Excellent breed type with correct coat texture with fullness and attractive feathering another solid sturdy well-bodied exhibit pleasing eye colour shape and set. Head correctly proportioned distinct stop rich red and white colouring attractive breed expression. Strong across the loins for a veteran good bone and firm round feet moved soundly but not quite the drive of the winner of show on the day in my opinion.

3rd      Jenkins’ Cwmbeili Morgan VW

Class 2 - Special Working Dog (1:0)

1st       Smith’s Isfryn Peeping Tom – Eight years. Compact build attractively balanced head muscular lengthy neck well set into shoulders strong across the loins and short in the couplings. Pleasing for size and breed outline most typical in all regards loosing his coat colour somewhat but retains a silky texture and powerfully muscled hindquarters.

Class 3 - Baby Puppy Dog (no entries)

Class 4 - Minor Puppy Dog (2:0)

1st       Harrison’s Glenbrows Turn Back Time – Seven months. Squarely built with compact appearance a masculine puppy very promising. Super strength of bone with length of fore-leg the best of tight rounded feet thickly padded strong nicely developed muzzle distinct stop. Very well angulated throughout pleasing turn of stifles well sprung ribcage excellent width across the loins for a puppy nicely short coupled with depth of body on display. Typical in all respects with pleasing eye colour shape and set a sound flowing mover grew in confidence on the day and with the agreement of my co-judge BPD & BPIS, congratulations.

2nd      Johnson & Langley’s Santallina Coreobus – Seven months. Excellent strength of solid bone and well-rounded feet nicely short coupled needs time to come together in front and for his coat to flush out. Head pleasingly balanced with slightly rounded well shaped skull and muzzle attractively formed. Excellent spring of lengthy ribcage pleasing eye colour shape and set.

Class 5 - Puppy Dog (2:0)

1st       Mercer & Mercer Amblelight Oleander – Rising ten months. Lovely breed type compact build soundly constructed throughout needs to gain confidence but very promising with a dam I now see I have favoured in the past. Inherited a lovely rich red and white colour attractive dark eye colour shape and set wide nostrils well sprung ribcage and firm across the loins for his age pleasingly short coupled. Good bone typical feet lovely depth of body for his age typical balanced outline well presented sound on the move with correct tail carriage.

2nd      Wren’s Glenbrows the Time is Now – Seven months. Litter brother to MPD winner I see more size than the winner and for me not quite as well balanced at present super profile mover with impressive forward reach and rear drive. Like his brother splendid strength of bone and tight well padded feet pleasing eye colour shape and set lovely length of neck cleanly set into shoulders. Slight longer in couplings and not quite the spring of ribcage of the winner in my opinion but remains promising overall given time.

Class 6 - Junior Dog (4:0)

1st       Graham’s Nyliram Born This Way JW – Fourteen months. Best front in the class very well angulated throughout short coupled solid sturdy body condition strong straight fore-legs typical outline with correct rise over loins. Balanced head soft kind expression well sprung ribcage and good depth of brisket for his age. Firm across the loins beautifully presented attractive developing feathering correct coat texture true rich red and white very sound mover with pleasing tail set and carriage.

2nd      Griffiths’ Merchinetes Padrig – Twelve months. Excellent strong bone standing on close knit rounded feet short coupled and balanced outline. Balanced head but slightly lacked the head qualities of the winner for me on the day well sprung ribcage pleasing turn of stifles very muscled hindquarters on a mature puppy. Rich red and white colouration eyes attractively coloured shaped and set sound in action front and rear.

3rd      Gaylor & Robertson’s Gilstonia Run Red Rum for Aprilflash

Class 7 - Novice Dog (1:0)

1st       White & Diamond’s Nyliram Poker Face – Fourteen months. Litter brother JD winner super youngster in all respects just needs to grow in confidence in the ring. Masculine head attractive breed expression distinct stop all in proportion lengthy muscular neck well set into shoulders good depth of body excellent strength of bone and tightly thick padded feet. Very sound mover front and rear with push and drive lovely profile action most attractively presented rich red and white coat correctly textured along clean lines.

Class 8 - Graduate Dog (1:0)

1st       Johnstone’s Glenbrows Erasmus for Gilpeta – Twenty two months. Compact young dog with delightful temperament typical breed outline and topline on show straight true front excellent lay of shoulders good reach of neck. Balanced head masculine with clear stop muscled hindquarters with deep second thighs. Excellent breed type correct dense full coat richly coloured with silky texture nicely short coupled just needs to tighten in rear action in my opinion a lovely dog.

Class 9 - Post Graduate Dog (5:1)

1st       Harrison’s Glenbrows Amadeus JW – Twenty two months. Litter brother winner GD symmetrically balanced build compact outline upstanding squarely made long muscular neck powerful across the loins for his age excellent solid body condition outstanding quality and strength of bone super thickly padded tight feet. Dark coloured eye complementing rich red and white coat colour head masculine without exaggeration distinct defined stop some chiseling on show. Beautifully short coupled pleasing spring of ribcage stood soundly in front moved determinedly at the rear powering from the hocks with ground covering action tail low set and carried. Correct coat covering attractively feathered and texture a splendid depth of body and underline very well presented in solid muscled condition RCC, congratulations.

2nd      Williams’s Nyliram The Alibi for Trebettyn – Two years four months. Another super driving ground covering mover very positive and determined in flowing profile action beautifully presented and put down. Attractive eye colour shape and set not quite the head finish of the winner at present in my opinion well sprung ribcage with lovely depth of brisket. Super sturdy body condition carrying plenty of fit muscled substance notably at the hindquarters and powerful across the loins. Coat of pleasing rich red colour dense with lovely silky texture lying well using his well set tail to better effect on the move than the winner. Two most promising young dogs.

3rd      Barkley’s Jacranella Galahad of Cherryheath (AI)

Class 10 - Limit Dog (5:0)

1st       Clarke and Casey’s Tigerrock Tick Tick Boom JW (TAF) – Rising two years. Most striking young dog for compact solid build and correct breed balance soundly constructed overall lovely coat condition density and silky full texture on show beautifully feather finish and cleanly presented. Good bone close tight feet excellent thick padding solid straight front standing and when moving powerful driving hindquarter action using hocks well ground covering with determined push and flowing sweeping profile action with correct head and tail carriage merry and very active. Excellent spring of ribcage short coupled very strong across the loins workmanlike appearance with the added touch of quality. Expression mild and kind with most attractive eye colour shape and set chiseling under the eyes not quite the fullness in the head of the second dog but balanced and unexaggerated with pleasing slight roundness to skull and muzzle defined stop. Super rich red and white colour greatly appealed to me for breed type and pleased to award what I understand is his second CC along with the agreement of my co-judge RBIS & BOS, congratulations.

2nd      Hepworth’s Kamunting’s Mad Hatter – Twenty two months. Built with power and endurance on show plenty of solid substance but needs to carry not more weight in my opinion. Grand type super red and white colour dense coat silky texture lying well attractively feather lovely presentation. Strong throughout very well angulated excellent muscled hindquarters with deep second thighs and pleasing roundness across the rump and firm strong loins. The best headed exhibit in the class in my opinion masculine balance appealing softness and roundness to skull and slightly padded muzzle clear stop lovely complementary eye colour shape and set. Long muscled neck workmanlike outline sound on the move but not quite displaying the driving rear action of the winner on the day. A credit to the breed and the sort I was looking out for today.

1st       Clarke’s Sh Ch Tigerrock Magic Woundabout JW Sh CEx OSW – Four years eight months. So much to admire in this most typical example of the breed substance and quality on show powerful sturdy compact build for endurance and hard work. Soundly constructed notably well-set strong hocks used effectively with drive lovely balanced masculine mature head with soft kind eye and expression particularly well sprung ribcage excellent bone tight thickly padded feet. Pleasing overall outline length and strength of neck straight true front splendid hindquarter muscle finish with deep second thighs. Distinct stop chiseling under the eyes and softly moulded full muzzle complete with rich red and white coat beautifully feathered and presented made for a wonderful picture of the breed.

2nd      Gaylor & Robertson’s Sh Ch Heniveruce King of Brewers for Aprilflash Sh CEx – Rising five years. Another super breed expression in evidence melting look with pleasing eye colour shape and set full nostrils on display solid straight true front with developed fore-chest delightful temperament. Short coupled strong bone throughout neat feet typical topline with good turn of stifles but for me not quite the overall balance in outline of the winner on the day respectfully for me he might benefit with a tad less body condition on show. Strong and pleasingly muscled across the loins and rump tail set low in excellent silky textured coat lying well just not quite the fullness of coat of the winner on the day.
