CRITIQUE

170212 WSSCSW OpenShow 579I was delighted to be asked to judge at this my first breed open show, where I was welcomed with warmth from the committee and exhibitors alike. Overall the quality of the exhibits were of a high standard and the ‘up and coming’ youngsters look promising for the future of the breed and certainly stole most of the top honours today. I felt that the majority were ‘fit for function’ and temperaments were superb but found one suspect mouth. I’d like to thank you all for taking the time to travel, giving me such a super entry with the opportunity to judge your lovely dogs and the sporting way you accepted my decisions. I really had a memorable day thank you so much.

DOGS CLASSES

MINOR PUPPY DOG (2,0)

1st - Harvey’s Benjamin Jankina Zahrada To Mariemead (Imp SVK), Happy 6½ month pup and so well put together for one of this age, Super head and length of neck leading into a good layback of shoulder, ample ribbing, deep throughout, correct bend of stifle with nice tight feet, moved well for one so young, one to watch BPD.

2nd - Wren’s Llon Derwen Dar At Gwynmarren, Another nice puppy and many attributes as 1, balanced with lovely bone, just didn’t have the ring presence of the winner.

PUPPY DOG (2,0)

1st - Jenkins’ Cwmbeili Morgan, 10 month old pup from a larger mould, mature youngster with a rich red coat, good angulations fore and aft, moved well,

2nd - Llon Derwen Dar At Gwynmarren.

JUNIOR DOG (1,0)

1st - Worth’s Sarabande Man In The Mirror (Ai), Stood alone but boy has he come on! Super coat and condition, such a lovely character and full of himself, best of heads with a kind dark eye, good angles throughout, moved well, should have a bright future.

SPECIAL YEARLING DOG (5,0)

1st - Harrison’s Glenbrows Picture Me Now JW, my notes say wow, wow, wow, last judged this boy at 9 months, he was just my ‘cup of tea’ then and I haven’t changed my mind, maturing beautifully I just love his head and expression, masculine but not course, his has a superb front assembly with nicely tucked in elbows, super depth and spring of rib, correct bend of stifle, stood four square on the best ‘catlike’ tight feet, for me he is very easy on the eye and just flows around the ring with lovely reach and drive, presented in beautiful condition, had to be good to beat the open dog and surely his title isn’t too far away, BD and BIS well done but I still want to take him home!

2nd - Ellis’ Shannara Total Eclipse, I like this boy a lot, super head, another balanced boy but he needs time to mature, lovely rich coat, moved well, very unlucky to meet the winner.

3rd - Sutherland’s Jacranella Solo.

MAIDEN DOG (1,0)

1st - Blick’s Glenbrows Paper Place, a nicely put together boy who would gain advantage if trimmed properly. Moved well when settled.

NOVICE DOG (2,0)

1st - Sarabande Man In The Mirror (Ai),

2nd - Cwmbeili Morgan.

GRADUATE DOG (2,1abs)

1st - Luckett-Roynon’s Solva Captain Vere, a nice sized dog who is well made, pleasing head, good coat with super depth of colour with plenty of bone and the best of feet.

POST GRADUATE DOG (4,0)

1st - Attwood’s Kylowen Drym, lots to like about this mature, well balanced young man, best of heads with a strong neck leading into good front assembly, plenty of heart room with correct rear angulation, good second thigh, moved very well, a good honest dog, easy winner of this class.

2nd - Dawson’s Ferndel Fool Hardy,

3rd - Hankin’s Haltonian Romeo With Woodelrond.

LIMIT DOG (4,0)

1st - Pick’s Llon Ddraig Goch, This boy is all Welsh from his lovely head to the tip of his tail, shown in full coat with good colour, well balanced throughout, neatest of feet, moved with purpose and drive.

2nd - Jenkin’s Brynseiri Afan, another pleasing lad but not quite the balance of 1 and slightly longer in back, moved and handled to advantage.

3rd - Luckett-Roynon’s Solva Giorgio.

OPEN DOG (5,0)

Quality class,

1st - Douglas’ Sh Ch Ferndel Justin Time ShCM, Super, mature, 5 year old happy boy who is at the top of his game, as always presented in fabulous condition and is a worthy title holder, balanced throughout, good steady movement and a proper showman, one I’ve done well for before but today he was just edged out by the youngster, RBD.

2nd - Barkley’s Sh Ch Cherryheath’s Mr Mischief JW ShCM, Another lovely boy who makes you smile with his super personality, very different type to 1 but same remarks apply.

3rd - Worth’s Sarabande Perfect Storm (Ai) ShCM.

VETERAN DOG (3,1abs)

Both these two boys could certainly show some of the youngsters how to move

1st - Tew’s Pamicks Dazzling Boy JW ShCM, 8 year old, I really like this lad and in my opinion has got better with age, has a lovely clean outline and nicely made throughout with a good spring of rib, super movement.

2nd - Attwood’s Kylowen Gerrans ShCM Ir. Vet Ch, 10½ year old lad of smaller mould and different type than 1 but is well made throughout, super coat and condition but for me; carrying a little too much weight and I would prefer a little less angulation on his back end, a lovely boy all the same.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (2,1abs)

1st - Ovey’s Bozidar Rio, Another pleasing head, nice coat of good colour, moved well.

SPECIAL WORKING DOG (1,1abs)

BITCHES CLASSES

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (2,0)

Two super quality babies.

1st - Pick’s Llon Blodyn Ymenyn, well balanced pretty puppy with a lovely outline, clean in neck and shoulders, good spring of rib and bend of stifle, well let down hocks and tidy feet, won here on her steady movement.

2nd - Harrison’s Glenbrows Hearts Wish, gorgeous super happy baby and so typical of this kennel, same remarks apply as one, just wished she’d kept 4 feet on the ground so I could assess her movement, loved her.

PUPPY BITCH (3,0)

Three lovely puppies in this class.

1st - Tew’s Pamicks Field Of Dreams, my puppy find of the day and so different from what I’d expect from this kennel, very feminine head, lovely layback of shoulder, adequate spring of rib, good rear angulation with nice muscle tone, she has the very best of outlines, with the startings of a good quality coat, tidy feet and moved so well for one so young, a happy outgoing lady with a bright future I’m sure BPB and BPIS.

2nd - Worth’s Sarabande Defying Gravity (Ai), A little finer than 1 but another lovely pup, super topline, pretty head, correct length of neck leading into a good front, good rear angulation, moved well.
3rd - Lancett’s Cwmbeili Madlen.

JUNIOR BITCH (5,1abs)

1st - Harrison’s Glenbrows Liberty (Ai), an easy winner here and lovely example of what this kennel is so well known for, prettiest of heads, great coat colour, excellent angulation throughout, great muscle tone for one so young, move with plenty of drive, just loved her RBB.

2nd - Phillips’ Tudful Ffos-Y-Fran, good head, neck and shoulders, nice topline, adequate bend of stifle, tidy mover, lots to like with this youngster.

3rd - Dawson’s Ferndel Heather Dew.

SPECIAL YEARLING BITCH (5,0)

1st - Barkley’s Cherryheath’s Miss Velocity JW, one I’ve judged before and she has really come on, very eye catching; broken coated pretty bitch of good size, liked her overall conformation and to me she is a good representative of the breed, everything is in the right proportions and she is not overdone in any way, a true welsh who could do a days’ work and has that lovely outgoing temperament that we should expect from our beautiful breed, excelled in movement and beautifully presented, delighted to award her BB, RBIS and BOS another I’d like to take home.

2nd - Glenbrows Liberty (Ai),

3rd - Sutherland’s Jacranella Sonata.

MAIDEN BITCH (2,0)

1st - Worth’s Sarabande Defying Gravity (Ai), 2nd in PB.

2nd - Luckett-Roynon’s Solva Martinka, broken coated bitch of good substance and balance, needs time to settle.

NOVICE BITCH (4,0)

1st - Pamicks Field Of Dreams,

2nd - Sarabande Defying Gravity (Ai),

3rd - Owen’s Typica Seren Aur.

GRADUATE BITCH (2,0)

1st - Glenbrows Liberty (Ai),

2nd - Sutherland’s Jacranella Serenade, lovely head and expression, good front assembly and spring of rib, correct rise over loin, good bend of stifle and lovely second thigh, moved well but carrying a tad too much weight today.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (4,3abs)

1st - Sutherland’s Jacranella Symphony, Pretty head with a kind eye, good length of neck, nicely balanced throughout, lovely coat and condition with tidy feet, stood alone but deserved her first place.

LIMIT BITCH (2,1abs)

1st - Lancett’s Coedybrain Nia At Cwmbeili, Stood alone but one I’ve admired for a long time and there’s no mistaking this one’s a bitch, she is very pretty with a lovely dark eye, another with the best of conformation and could easily do a days’ work, in lovely coat and condition, moved with ease.

OPEN BITCH (3, 1abs)

1st - Ellis’ Glenbrows Fascination With Shannara, a glamorous girl in a full red jacket and there is no mistaking which kennel she is from, lovely headed bitch with lots to like about, good front angulation, excellent turn of stifle, well let down hocks, best of feet, moved effortlessly and as one with her handler, for me just a little long which went against her in the final challenge.

2nd - Pick’s Sh Ch Lili Bengam, Another I have always appreciated, such a pretty broken coated lady and has lovely clean flowing lines with nothing to jar the eye, correct angulation throughout, presented today in her best attire, sadly did not move with the reach and drive of 1.

VETERAN BITCH (3,0)

1st - Sutherland’s Ch Julita Rezanella Of Jacranella, one I have always liked, well proportioned 8 year old broken coated bitch, feminine head with good length of neck leading into the best of fronts, presented in good hard condition, just beginning to show her age and lose her colour but still up for a day in the field, pleased to award her BVIS.

2nd - Pick’s Llon Alis, Ultra feminine 8½ year lady who is still retaining good coat colour, good overall angulation and has kept her figure, lovely steady mover.

3rd - Attwood’s Kylowen Quillets.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (2,1abs)

1st - Tudful Ffos-Y-Fran. 2nd JB

SPECIAL WORKING BITCH (1,0)

1st - Barkley’s Cherryheath’s Miss Chief JW, Well put together quality girl with everything in the right place, presented in lovely coat and condition, called her back to challenge for BVB but sadly didn’t go as well as I’ve seen her before.
