CRITIQUE

 

Many thanks to the committee for the invitation and the exhibitors for supporting the show, I was delighted with my entry. I would also like to thank my two super-efficient stewards, Brian and Anita Shears, who ensured the day ran smoothly.


DOG CLASSES

180211 wsscsw open 200Class 1 Minor Puppy Dog (1, 1a)

Class 2 Puppy Dog (5,0a)

1st - Worth’s Sarabande Lord Of The Dance (AI), - 9 months old, lovely balanced shape, enjoying his day out with a happy wagging tail. Strong muscular neck, good front and rear angulation on the move, well off for bone with tight thick padded feet. BPD

2nd - Stevenson’s Isfryn King Leir At Blythway, - 10 months, from a smaller mould. Mature for age, well proportioned head with strong muzzle, good depth of chest, short coupled and solid topline. Good width of second thigh with well let down hocks.

Class 3 Junior Dog (4,1a)

1st - Stevenson’s Isfryn King Leir at Blythway.

2nd - McIlwaine & Reynolds Glenbrows Van Gogh for Benover, - 3rd in puppy class, just at the in between stage at the moment, rangier than 1. Lovely dark eye and kind expression, good bone, tight feet, and depth of chest. Didn’t do himself justice on the stand today.

Class 4 Special Yearling Dog (5.0a)

1st - Gough’s Julita Rukester, - lovely head and expression, dark eye with good width across the skull, good length of neck, well laid back shoulders, good forechest, well off for bone with strong topline, moved well, would just prefer a touch more rear angulation.

2nd - Jenkins Cwmbeili Morgan, - rangier type with still some maturing to do, good depth of muzzle with masculine head, preferred spring of rib of one, good rear angulation, well presented and handled.

Class 5 Maiden Dog (0,0a)

Class 6 Novice Dog (3,0)

1st - Sweetland’s Jedi Du Domaine De Kerarzic Vilin, - new one to me, mature male, who gave his handler a hard time, lovely dark eye, would prefer a touch more stop, good length of neck and nice front assembly, strong topline, moved well coming and going.

2nd - Stewart’s Sarabande Hugo Star Of Wales,-  change of handler in this class, very raw puppy with lots of maturing still to do, muscular neck, good bone and topline, just not settled on the move today.

Class 7 Graduate Dog (4,0)

1st - Cemis’s Shanwick Viscount, - masculine throughout, strong head which is well chiselled below the eye, in lovely coat, plenty of body and bone, thick padded feet, happy outgoing temperament, well muscled, good rear angulation and width of second thigh.

2nd - Sweetland’s Jedi Du Domaine De Kerarzic Vilin.

Class 8 Post Graduate Dog (6,0)

1st - Worth’s Sarabande Man In The Mirror (AI) JW SHCM, - from a smaller mould but balanced throughout, loved his head and expression with strong muzzle, in gleaming coat and condition, good angulation front and rear, short coupled, good depth of chest, moved ok.

2nd - Brown’s Bowdonia Ozzie, - nice overall shape, kind head and eye, ok in neck, good depth of chest and bone, moved well just not the enthusiasm of 1, strong back end, driving from the rear, preferred topline of 1.

Class 9 Limit Dog (9,1)

1st - McIlwaine & Reynolds Kamunting Cast Away To Benover JW, - impressive male who looked a picture on the stand, balanced throughout, in gleaming coat, lovely dark eye and kind expression, good spring of rib, well off for bone, short coupled, moved well in the class, just lost his spark in the challenge, close up for top honours.

2nd - Ellis & Pilkington’s Shannara Total Eclipse, - another male who impressed me today, has to be gone over to be appreciated, kind head, lovely happy outgoing temperament, excellent bone and feet, good spring of rib, good width and angulation at rear, presented in lovely condition, pushed 1 hard.

Class 10 Open Dog (5,0a)

1st - Harrison’s Sh Ch Glenbrows Picture Me Now, - all male, gorgeous to go over, kind head, expression and lovely dark eye, excelled in lovely tight feet and bone, presented to perfection, well laid back shoulders, good length of neck, plenty of forechest, strong topline, straight coming and going, really powering around the ring. BD and BIS.

2nd - Barkley’s Sh Ch Cherryheath’s Mr Mischief JW ShCM, - have done this boy well before, full of quality, lovely balanced shape, kind head and expression, strong muscular neck, good broad chest and spring of rib, good bone and feet, thoroughly enjoying his day out, flew around the ring to take RBD.

Class 11 Veteran Dog (5,1a)

1st - McIlwaine & Reynolds Sh Ch Glenbrows Band Of Brothers For Benover JW SHCM, - hard to believe this boy is a veteran, looked a picture on the stand, well proportioned head and expression, good length of neck, well placed shoulders, good bone and feet, excellent spring of rib, short coupled, powered around the ring, sometimes a little too fast as this affected his front and rear movement.

2nd - Stone’s Stedigan Pipers Piping For Merrem SHCM RL1, - different type to 1, nice overall shape, kind head, excellent reach of neck, not the bone or front angulation of 1, strong topline, with good strong rear, sound on the move.

Class 12 Special Beginners Dog (5,1a)

1st - Gough’s Julita Rukester

2nd - Sweetland’s Jedi Du Domaine De Kerarzic Vilin

Class 13 Special Working Dog (1,1a)

1st - Smith’s Isfryn Peeping Tom, - attractive dark eye, good reach of neck, well off for bone with nice tight feet, short coupled, excellent muscle tone for a puppy.


BITCH CLASSES

1st - Revill & Taylor’s Julita Rhubette, - 6 months, a real baby, but everything in the right place, nice balanced shape, with good front and rear angulation, good tight feet, moved ok, just needs time, but this is on her side, enjoying her day out.

Class 15 Puppy Bitch (3,0a)

1st - Waller’s Isfryn Lady Godiva At Fireglow, - 10 months, pretty feminine bitch, well bodied for her age, sweet head and expression, good front assembly and topline, nice bone, her sound steady movement could not deny her BPIS, which will watch her future with interest.

2nd - Worth’s Sarabande Dance To The Rhythm (AI), - not as mature as 1 today, nice shape with cracking feet, good amount of bone and correct front and rear angulation, good length of neck, just not as together on the move today as 1.

Class 16 Junior Bitch (3,2a)

1st - Caldwell’s Hillpark Queen Bee For Cerysan, - feminine throughout, kind head and eye, lovely bone and feet, good spring of rib, short coupled, good reach and drive in profile, slightly wide in front today.

Class 17 Special Yearling Bitch (5.1a)

1st - Hills-Page’s Llon Llysiaur Hedydd, - new one to me, lovely shape in gleaming coat, neat feet, feminine head and expression, good neck and shoulders, deep chest, good width of second thigh, moved true coming and going.

2nd - Tew’s Pamicks Field Of Dreams JW, - very close to one, similar remarks apply, stronger in head and shorter coupled than 1, excellent spring of rib, good bone, just preferred front movement of 1.

Class 18 Maiden Bitch (2,0a)

1st - Phillip’s Tudful Ffos Y Fran, - another new on to me, lovely overall shape, kind eye, good length of neck, neat feet, solid topline, coat gleaming, good lay back of shoulders, hocks well let down, giving her handler a hard time on the move but once settled moved well.

2nd - Harrison’s Glenbrows Valentine, - lost out on maturity, nice overall shape, rangier than 1, in lovely coat and condition, good bone and feet, just lacking confidence, moved OK.

Class 19 Novice Bitch (6,0)

1st - Dawson’s Ferndel Heather Dew, - looked a picture on the stand, well balanced bitch, maturing well with good spring of rib, kind eye with strong muzzle, lovely length of neck with good shoulder placement, excellent depth of chest, short coupled, moved soundly.

2nd - Phillip’s Tudful Ffos Y Fran

Class 20 Graduate Bitch (8,0)

1st - Jones’s Julita Rumours At Trosley, - lovely feminine shape, kind head and expression, good length of neck into well laid back shoulders, good rear angulation and second thigh, good amount of bone and tight feet, slightly longer in loin than 2 but more mature at this stage.

2nd - Philip’s Tudful Ffos Y Fran

Class 21 Post Graduate Bitch (4,1a)

1st - Owen’s Typica Seren Aur, - lively bitch who was full of enthusiasm, good eye colour, would prefer a touch more stop, nice shape, good length of neck, plenty of forechest, short coupled, strong topline and rear end, feet could be tighter.

2nd - Lampsberger’s Benover Field Of Dreams To Kurzeja, - kind head, nice front and rear angulation, good depth of chest, longer cast than 1, low hocks with good width of second thigh, could not match the enthusiasm of 1 on the move.

Class 22 Limit Bitch (6,3)

1st - Simmon’s Bevan Our Loyal Welsh For Glynell (IMP NLD), - really liked her overall shape, good head and eye, good neck, shoulders could be better, tight feet, excellent spring of rib, sound coming and going, won class movement.

2nd - Madeley’s Barhi Flaming Star At Maytag, - preferred head of 1, bone ok, good spring of rib and short coupled, nice tight feet, good rear angulation, happy outgoing girl, solid topline, would prefer more length of upper arm.

Class 23 Open Bitch (5,2a)

1st - Lancett’s Coedybrain Nia At Cwmbeili, - fully matured bitch, typical welsh expression, kind head and well chiselled below the eye, lovely overall shape, well bodied, strong neck, good front and rear angulation, thick tight padded feet, good topline leading to well set tail, once settled in the class moved soundly, stepped up a gear in the challenge with a different handler to take BB & RBIS.

2nd - Worth’s Sarabande River Breeze (AI), - different type, thoroughly enjoying her day out, kind dark eye, lovely spring of rib and forechest, strong topline, longer cast than 1, excellent width of rear quarters.

Class 24 Veteran Bitch (5,1a)

1st - Harrison’s Sh Ch Glenbrows Tribute To Weslave JW, - one I have always admired, hard to believe she is a veteran, immaculate coat and presentation, strong substantial bitch, full of quality, well proportioned head, kind eye, great bone and feet, well laid back shoulders, moved soundly, just started to flag in the challenge where the open bitch stepped up a gear, pushed hard for BB but had to settle for reserve today. RBB & BVIS

2nd - Barkley’s Cherryheath’s Miss Chief JW, - pleasing head and eye, well bodied and boned bitch, holding her topline well, good tight feet, low hocks, short coupled, good tail set, couldn’t match 1 on the move.

Class 25 Special Beginners Bitch (4,2a)

1st - Philip’s Tudful Ffos Y Fran

2nd - Courtney’s Sycharth Land Of My Fathers, - well bodied mature bitch, would prefer more depth to muzzle, ok for bone, good depth of chest, good tailset, moved ok.

Class 26 Special Working Bitch (2,1a)

1st - Smith’s Isfryn Hocus Pocus JW, - stood alone but a worthy winner, from a smaller mould but none the less a well balance bitch, lovely temperament, in excellent muscle tone, good bone and spring of rib, moved soundly coming and going.

Class 27 Special New Members Awards Dog or Bitch (3,1)

1st - Sweetland’s Jedi Du Domaine De Kerarzic Vilin

 SPECIAL AWARD CLASSES

180211 wsscsw open 335Thank you to the exhibitors for the opportunity to judge so many lovely examples of the breed, there were some lovely dogs which I was unable to give cards to. Thank you also to the committee for such a lovely happy welcoming atmosphere, I loved my time at the show.

Class A. Special Kath Morgan Memorial Junior Dog or Bitch (8, 2)

1st - Harrison’s GLENBROW’S VALENTINE An eleven month old, very pretty bitch. Beautiful in outline with a lovely rich red coat. Well balanced very feminine head of good proportions. Correct angulations front and rear allowing excellent movement. Straight in foreleg and good tight feet. Stands all square with good bone. For age sufficient width of rib cage.

2nd - Caldwell’s HILLPARK QUEEN BEE FOR CERYSAN - A 16 month old bitch who is a lovely feminine bitch with a kind expression. Again a well-made bitch with a good turn of stifle. Excellent tight feet and straight in foreleg. Well balanced in outline. Outgoing personality but moved a little close behind which cost her first place.

3rd - Revill’s JULITA RHUBETTE

Class B. Speciial Kath Morgan Memorial Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (16, 2) 

1st - Brown’s BOWDONIA OZZIE - A 3 year-old gorgeous male full of masculinity. Well balanced dog with good straight forelegs, good feet and stands naturally with excellent angulation. Lovely reach of neck into good sloping shoulders. Very well proportioned in head with a kind eye giving a lovely spaniel expression. Well ribbed and good depth of brisket. Moved very well with a happy disposition which won him the class.

2nd - Stone’s STEDIGAN ALL IN GOOD TIME FOR MERREM - A 4 year-old dog with a very gentle expression in the eye and well-proportioned head giving him a lovely expression. Very well boned male with lovely deep brisket and strength in loin, good tight feet, well-muscled and with a very good depth of second thigh.

3RD - Woodham’s GLYNELL JIFFY

Class C. Special Len Morgan Memorial Open Dog or Bitch (10, 3)

1st - Ellis’ SHANNARA TOTAL ECLIPSE A 2 year-old dog. A beautiful balanced dog in outline with a good depth of colour. Excellent angulation and good tight feet. Good turn of stifle and straight in forelegs. Reach of neck good into well-laid shoulders. Moved well with plenty of reach and drive.

2nd - Barkley’s SH CH MR MISCHIEF JW ShCM - A 6 year-old dog who again is a well balanced dog with excellent angulation and good tight feet. He has a well balanced head with a lovely kind spaniel expression. Both these two dogs are excellent examples of the breed, both moving well but the first just moved with more life and spirit.

3rd - Lancett’s COEDYBRAIN NIA AT CWMBEILI
