 Special Awards LineupSPECIAL AWARDS

During the lunchbreak of the main show three classes of Special Awards were judged by:

Mrs Jane Sutherland (Jacranella)

JUDGE'S CRITIQUE

My thanks go to the committee for inviting me to judge the Special Classes at their Open Show and for the warm Welsh Welcome. Thanks also to all the exhibitors who presented their lovely dogs for me to assess.

Class A - Special Junior Dog or Bitch

1. Fairhall and Millard's Ferndel Fairy Tale at Rubylea. - A lovely balanced youngster. Appealing head with melting expression, reachy neck well set into correctly laid shoulder. Well ribbed with short, strong couplings. Excellent topline, well angulated hindquarters with good width which she used to good effect on the move showing plenty of reach and drive on tight, well padded feet.
2. Lancett's Coedybrain Nia at Cwmbeili - Another lovely youngster, sweetest of heads and expression. Lovely reach of neck into well laid shoulders, younger than 1. so lighter in rib at present but deep brisket and good topline. Strong quarters with correct angulations fore and aft. Moved positively when settled, showing plenty of drive, on excellent feet. Lost out on maturity to 1.
3. Johnstons' Coedybrain Mali at Nlydris

Class B - Special Post Graduate Dog or Bitch
Very close decision between 1 and 2

1. Leary's Menstonia Minty of Haselmount - Pleasing head with kind expression, well balanced outline. Lovely neck into well laid shoulder, plenty of ribbing and excellent topline. Correct tailset, strong, well developed quarters with plenty of width, used to good advantage on the move.
2. Frost's Cochnaid's Cartier Diamond - Unlucky to meet 1. today. Sweetest of heads and expressions with a well balanced outline, reachy neck into well laid shoulder. Not quite the ribbing of 1. Excellent topline and tailset, strong short loin showing correct muscular arch. Well developed muscular quarters giving plenty of push and drive. In beautiful coat and condition.
3. Ellis's Glenbrows Fascination with Shannara

Class C - Special Len Morgan Memorial Stakes Dog or Bitch

1. Worth's Sh.Ch. Shandwick Premier Rose at Saraband JW Sh CM - Lovely head, clean in neck, well set onto strong, well laid shoulders. Shows a balanced outline throughout with plenty of ribbing and well coupled, muscular loin. Well developed quarters with correct angulation and width, moved with vigour covering her ground with drive and maintaining her strong topline at all times. Shown in superb coat and condition.
2. Masson's Coedybrain Rebecca at Manmoel - A different type to 1 but another lovely bitch and one I have always liked. Sweetest of heads with a feminine expression, excellent reach of neck, and strong well laid shoulders. Abundant ribbing, strong topline and couplings, muscular quarters with correct angulations throughout. She moved with drive and precision, on the best of feet, showing a clean front and displaying her flowing lines and balanced outline. However, she clearly held differing opinions to those of her handler on the best use of a sunny afternoon, and didn't show herself to advantage in the stack.
3. Tew's Pamicks Dazzling Boy JW.

Jane Sutherland.

Many thanks again Jan to your club and committee for such a lovely day (not to mention my fine pen)!
