Even if you are not showing your dog why not come along to support the competitors. There's always refreshments available. It's a great opportunity to meet up with club members and see a multitude of Welsh Springers in one place. As we are located close to Chepstow it's a great setting-off place to go and explore the beautiful Wye Valley - there's the famous Chepstow Castle and the wonderful Tintern Abbey is just 5 miles away. Why not arrange a dog walk with friends and family and drop in to see us at lunchtime or later on to see the awards of the day's champions.

There's always a warm welcome at our shows and it's the ideal place if you want to learn more about the breed - we look forward to seeing you there.

JUDGES' PROFILES

Judge: Yvonne Billows (Robil)

My thanks to the Officials and Committee of the WSSCSW for this invitation to judge at the Club Open Show and I am so very much looking forward to it.

I have been involved in showing dogs since the age of 12 working at a local show/gundog kennels. In 1975 at the start of married life, my late husband Ronnie and I began showing English Springer Spaniels under the Robil affix and the last 20 years have also included Affenpinschers. There are numerous Robil dogs in the KC stud book plus six ESS Show Champions. Our dogs also have achieved KC Good Citizen Gold awards, Rally Level 6, and competed in agility.

I first started judging WSS in 1981 and now judge all gundog breeds at Open Show Group and BIS level. I awarded CCs in ESS for the first time in 1986 and have done so 14 times including Crufts in 2005. I am also passed to award CCs in Affenpinschers, Cocker Spaniels, GWP and Lagotto Romagnolo. I have awarded CACIBs in ESS in various countries around the world and have published a book on the breed. I am the President of the English Springer Spaniel Club and an HLM of the ESSC and the L&CESSC.

In addition to the show side of my hobby, I was appointed as a KC Accredited Trainer in 1999 at the start of the Judges Training initiative, continuing up to 2021 and I delivered seminars to many different breed clubs, general canine societies and championship shows on the various KC education programmes. I was also a very active member of the KC Training Board from 2008 until 2021 when I retired from both posts.

SPECIAL AWARDS JUDGE

Graham Hart (Gilligrae)

I have been brought up with dogs for as long as I can remember. My wife and I started out with Kerry Blue Terriers, before getting our first Irish Setter and Irish Red and White Setter in 2007, it was at this time we were encouraged to start showing. Since then we have gained CCs, Green Stars and Stud book numbers with many of our dogs.

I quite quickly recognised that I wanted to give something back to the show fraternity; I have strived over the years to learn as much as I can and have successfully completed numerous BADs in Gundog breeds and have two future CC appointments in Irish and Irish Red and White Setters.
I am also on the committee of several clubs. I am greatly looking forward to judging the ‘Specials’ at your show and thank you for the invite.

We are looking forward to seeing you all there
