  ** PENLLERGARE - Autumn Walk **

Join us with your Welsh Springer Spaniels
for a dog walk at
Penllergare Valley Woods
Just off the M4 at Swansea, Junction 47
on
Sunday 12th November – meet at 10.45am

We haven't been able to hold our Autumn Dog Walk here since before the pandemic - so we are very pleased to return to this wonderful woodland park this coming weekend on Sunday 12th November 2023 - and everyone is welcome to come and join us.

We meet at 10:45am so that we can all gather and respect the minute silence at 11:00am, to respect Remembrance Sunday, before we set off for a leisurely walk (about 2 miles) around this beautiful woodland park.

Penllergare is a very important location in the history of the development of the Welsh Springer Spaniel and as an added bonus to this walk Mr Stuart Hemsley-Rice, a leading member of the Trust that manages the woodland, has offered to lead us on a guided walk of the woodland trail. He will explain the history of the Estate, and the links to the origins of the Welsh Springer Spaniel by the landowners and gamekeepers of Penllergare Estate and nearby Llanharan in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Since we last saw the dedicated group of people who look after Penllergare – pre-pandemic – they have been busy with many projects around the Woodlands and the jewel in their crown is a brand new, modern visitor centre, which unfortunately will not be open in time for our visit, but their Community Coffee shop will be open, where we can gather for a cuppa and slice of cake afterwards.

They have also installed a splendid new wood carving of "Llew", a Welsh Springer Spaniel, in recognition of the birthplace of this beautiful breed of dog.

We haven't had a dog walk meet for a couple of months so this will be a good opportunity to meet up again at a venue which will be new to many of you.

Even if you haven't got a Welshie yet want to learn about the breed you will be welcome to meet our dogs and talk to some very knowledgeable Welshie owners and give you some tips and an idea of what it is like to own one of the few breed of dogs that originated in Wales.

Note - there is a charge for car parking.
