YOUR JUDGES
Dogs Judge – Mr Moray Armstrong (Bitcon)
I have been showing and breeding under the Bitcon Kennels name for over 45 years. I started with Cocker Spaniels then added other breeds over the years. To date we have owned or bred 52 UK Champions in Cocker Spaniels, Flat Coat Retrievers, Welsh Springer Spaniels and Hungarian Vizslas.
Over the years I have achieved many notable wins with each breed however it was with a Hungarian Vizsla we had our most success. Our dog Sh Ch Aus Ch Hungargunn Bear It in Mind was the Breed Record Holder and Top Dog of all breeds for two consecutive years. He was also Best in Show at Crufts in 2010.
As a judge I award Challenge Certificates to over sixty breeds across five groups. I have judged the Gundog Group, Hound and Terrier Group in the UK and I have passed my examinations to judge Best in Show at Championship Shows in the UK.
I have judged in many countries around the world.
Moray Armstrong
Bitches Judge - Mrs Debra Roberts - (Cwrtafon)
There cannot be a more special day than being invited to judge at the Club that you have been involved with for many many years. This will be the third time that the committee of the WSSCSW have honoured me with such an invitation.
Over the years I have served the club as Treasurer, Vice Chairman, President, Assistant Secretary and this year now serve the club as Secretary. I thank Sue for stepping in, due to me being indisposed.
My first Welsh Springer came from Len and Kath Morgan’s Cwrtafon Kennel back in 1983, initially a pet and running partner for my rugby playing husband.
The show bug eventually bit and he went onto win a Reserve CC. I showed several Welsh in my ownership and even dabbled in working one, but that was short lived and not for me even though the dog loved it. Following many years of showing and more importantly friendship, I was added to the Cwrtafon affix.
I have been very lucky to have handled a number of home-bred champions with SH CH Cwrtafon Cadfor being the last champion. He was a typical Welsh Springer with a mind of his own and wasn’t afraid to put me in my place at every opportunity. Having a Welsh Springer is definitely not boring.
My involvement in Pontypool & District Canine Society has also been long-standing, serving as Secretary for a number of years. We hold an annual open show where we are very proud to be one of the clubs chosen by the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales to host supported entry classes.
Over recent years I strayed away from Welsh Springers and have owned/co-owned German Spitz Mittel’s and while I thoroughly enjoy a completely different breed and style of showing, Welsh Springers will always hold a special place in my heart.
Debra Roberts
