Dog Meetup in Sunny Barry-bados

211114 wsscsw dog walk 007a cropWe haven’t had an organised meetup and dog walk for nearly two years due to the Covid restrictions – so we were all very excited to be able to organise a get together on one of our favourite local beaches at Barry Island – and the weather certainly lived up to its nickname – Barry-bados.

211114 wsscsw dog walk 096aSorry but I didn’t get round to doing an accurate head count but there were well over 30 humans and over 20 dogs. We met outside Marco’s cafe – made famous by Gavin and Stacey – and it was great to see so many new faces, human and doggies.

It was a gloriously sunny day and the promenade was very busy with lots of other daytrippers – and almost everyone had dogs with them – and our large group all with Welshies certainly made a spectacle as we stood for the compulsory group photo.

With so many people around it was quite moving when at 11 o’clock the tannoy announced the hour of remembrance and everyone came to a standstill and observed the one minute’s silence ending with a distant bugler playing the last Post.

So we all wandered off to the beach and most of the dogs hurtled off to bound about in the water. I must admit we did more chatting than walking but that’s what days like this are all about especially when we haven’t seen each other for two years.

Once the dogs had worn each other out we all retired to various cafés on the front for a cuppa and bacon sarnie and to bask in the unseasonal sunshine. I think everyone had a good time and already we are looking forward to the next get together.
